About candidate

About you
I am someone whose life’s work has been rooted in compassion, presence, and deep respect for the human journey. With more than 35 years of devoted service as a mental health nurse, and now as a Life Coach and Spiritual Life Coach, I bring wisdom shaped by listening deeply, showing patience, and offering genuine care. My approach is heartfelt and nonjudgmental, meeting each individual as a whole being—mind, body, and spirit. I have a deep love for people, a reverence for nature, and a sincere appreciation for life in all its seasons. Creative, reliable, and empathetic, I strive to hold space with grace, offering others safety, understanding, and gentle guidance toward healing, growth, and wholeness.
What are you looking for in a new role?
In my next role as a Lifestyle Medicine Coach, I am looking for an opportunity to combine evidence-based practice with genuine human connection. I am deeply committed to lifelong learning and continually expanding my knowledge so I can offer the most effective, up-to-date guidance to those I serve. At the heart of my work is a passion for helping others grow into their full potential—physically, mentally, and emotionally—by providing practical skills, clear strategies, and realistic tips that lead to meaningful, sustainable results.

I believe confidence is built through small, consistent wins, and I strive to create an environment where individuals feel supported, capable, and empowered. Through motivating, compassionate conversations, I help people recognize that change is not only possible, but inevitable when they are given the right tools, encouragement, and belief in themselves. I am especially drawn to roles that allow me to use my creativity and my gentle yet effective approach—meeting people where they are, honoring their unique journeys, and guiding them forward with clarity, empathy, and purpose.
What you are interested in working with us?
The posting was especially compelling because its wording directly aligned with my core values and motivations as a professional dedicated to helping others. By emphasizing qualities such as **empathy**, the organization signaled that it values understanding, compassion, and human connection—principles that are central to how I approach my work. Rather than presenting the role as a set of isolated tasks, the posting framed the position as **joining a movement**, which appealed to my desire to contribute to something meaningful and purpose-driven beyond myself.

The language around **collaboration** and **curiosity** further resonated with me, as it suggested an environment where learning, shared problem-solving, and growth are encouraged. These words conveyed that the organization values thoughtful engagement and welcomes new perspectives, rather than rigid conformity. The emphasis on being **creative** also spoke to my desire to bring innovation and flexibility into my work with others.

Finally, the description of being part of a **team of individuals who share ideas, celebrations, and struggles** reinforced a sense of belonging and mutual support. It portrayed a workplace culture grounded in trust and shared experience, where successes are celebrated collectively and challenges are faced together. Overall, the posting’s language reflected a values-driven, people-centered approach that closely mirrors my own professional identity and aspirations.
What has been most challenging experience in a past role?
One of the most challenging experiences of my career occurred while working as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in a private practice during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many healthcare settings, our practice faced severe short staffing, while at the same time the mental health needs of our clientele increased dramatically. Clients were experiencing heightened anxiety, depression, grief, and uncertainty, which required more time, emotional presence, and clinical support than ever before. Managing this surge in acuity without adequate staffing made it increasingly difficult to provide the level of care I believed my patients deserved.

As colleagues did not return to work, their responsibilities were absorbed into my role. In addition to my clinical duties, I found myself answering phones, scheduling appointments, and collecting drug screenings—tasks that significantly extended my workday and diluted my capacity to focus on patient care. The constant pressure and lack of boundaries quickly led to burnout and forced me to reflect deeply on my reasons for practicing. Ultimately, this experience prompted a pivotal decision: I chose to retire my nursing license and seek a path that allowed me greater autonomy and alignment with my values. Transitioning into a healing field where I could regain control over my practice has enabled me to make a more authentic and positive impact on others, while also honoring my own well-being.

Here is a revised version of your cover letter that smoothly incorporates your fully online practice since 2021 and your certifications in Life Coaching and Spiritual Life Coaching, while keeping the tone empathetic, holistic, and professional.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the remote Lifestyle Medicine Coach position, supporting individuals in creating healthier, more fulfilling lives. With decades of experience as a mental health nurse and several years of fully remote practice, I bring a strong foundation in behavior change, compassionate coaching, and whole-person care that aligns closely with the principles of lifestyle medicine.

Throughout my nursing career, education, encouragement, and motivation were central to my work. I consistently supported clients with weight management, nutrition and dietary choices, physical activity, smoking cessation, personal hygiene, and stress management. These lifestyle themes were not ancillary to care but core components of promoting long-term mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

My professional background spans a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric care, private practice, addiction treatment programs, and community mental health services. These diverse roles strengthened my ability to meet individuals where they are, tailor interventions to their lived realities, and foster trust through a respectful, nonjudgmental approach. Since 2021, my practice has been conducted exclusively online, allowing me to refine my skills in remote engagement, virtual coaching, and building meaningful therapeutic relationships in a digital environment.

I hold a Master’s degree in Science and Nursing with a mental health focus, providing a strong academic and clinical foundation in evidence-based modalities that support lasting change. In addition, I am certified in Life Coaching and Spiritual Life Coaching, which enhances my ability to address motivation, values, purpose, and inner resilience—key drivers of sustainable lifestyle transformation.

I am known for my empathetic, creative, and holistic approach. I believe meaningful change occurs when individuals feel seen, heard, and supported rather than judged. My coaching style emphasizes collaboration, curiosity, and empowerment, helping clients develop realistic, sustainable habits that align with their personal goals and values.

I am excited about the opportunity to bring my experience, insight, and passion for whole-person health to your organization as a remote Lifestyle Medicine Coach. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to your mission of helping people live healthier, more balanced lives.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Warm regards,
Barbara Jo Lane
